NEW COCO CHIEF. Undersecretary Maia Chiara Halmen Reina A. Valdez of the Office of the Cabinet Secretary and designated as the Permanent Alternate Chairman to the PCA Governing Board administers the oath taking of the newly-elected PCA Administrator Avelino L. Andal during the simple ceremony held yesterday at the PCA Chairman’s Office.

The Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA) yesterday proudly announced it has installed Avelino L. Andal as its new Administrator.

During the simple ceremony held at the PCA Chairman’s Office, Andal took his oath before Undersecretary Maia Chiara Halmen Reina A. Valdez of the Office of the Cabinet Secretary, also designated as the Permanent Alternate Chairperson to the PCA Governing Board.

Andal vowed to further boost programs and policies that will maximize the agency’s potentials in spurring the growth of the coconut industry.

 “I am very much looking forward to help uplift the lives our coconut farmers who are considered as the poorest among the poor. We will look into more opportunities that will strengthen our capacity to help them alleviate from poverty. ” Andal added.

At this point in time, Administrator Andal is looking to visit Basilan and other CSI-infested provinces. And on the issue of preserving coconut trees, he is considering to issue a moratorium on cutting of coconut trees.

A former board member in the 2nd district of Quezon province, Andal also served as the chairman of the Rodrigo Duterte Volunteer Foundation, which campaigned for Duterte in the 2016 elections.

President Rodrigo Roa Duterte signed his appointment paper on November 08, 2016.

Pursuant to Executive Order No. 1 issued on 30 June 2016, PCA was among the 12 agencies that were placed under the supervision of Office of the Cabinet Secretary from the Office of the Presidential Assistant for Food Security and Agricultural Modernization (OPAFSAM).
